Our Moris
At Sheela Farm, there's one resident who's always ready to work, watch, and play: Moris, our Australian Kelpie. With his alert gaze, smooth movements, and boundless energy, he's more than just a dog; he's a full-fledged member of our team.
Australian Kelpie
The Australian Kelpie originated in the 19th century, when Scottish shepherds brought their working dogs to Australia. These dogs were crossed with local working dogs better suited to the hot, dry climate. This cross resulted in a new, tireless herding dog—the Kelpie.
The breed quickly became indispensable on Australian farms for its intelligence, independence, and endurance. Today, the Kelpie is valued worldwide as both a reliable working dog and an energetic family companion.
Eccentricity
Unlike a Border Collie, which primarily works under the guidance of its handler, Australian Kelpies are known for their independence. These dogs excel at herding cattle individually: they can gather an entire herd and lead it to a designated area without direct commands from their owner.
This independence makes them exceptionally efficient and intelligent, but it also presents a challenge. Kelpies work with complete dedication and become deeply focused on their task, making them less receptive to new instructions once they're "in the zone." While a Border Collie constantly listens to its owner's whistle, a Kelpie relies primarily on its own judgment and instincts.
Busy bee
Our Moris is busy all day long. Set foot in the yard, and he immediately makes himself heard—not out of fear, but from his natural urge to watch and protect. He keeps a close eye on everything: the chickens, the sheep, and the cows. No animal escapes his keen gaze.
When he's not on patrol, he enjoys riding with David in the car or on the tractor. For Moris, that's pure joy in life, ready for the next adventure on the farm.
Faithful buddy
Moris is not only a worker but also a loyal companion. His presence brings life and movement to the farm—always enthusiastic, always willing to help. After a day of action, he loves to seek company: to relax at his owner's feet or enjoy a quiet evening as the sun sets over the meadows.
For us, he's the perfect example of what makes an Australian Kelpie so special: loyal, intelligent, tireless, and full of character. Moris belongs to Sheela Farm, just as Sheela Farm belongs to him.
